The Plant Cell Features September First Authors

Behind those manuscripts are researchers, professors, professionals and students dedicated to advancing the field of plant science. You’ve seen our First Authors on Twitter and Facebook— now, read more about why they chose to pursue plant sciences and click on the links to read their articles.

Min Liu

Min Liu is the First Author of Comparative analysis of nascent RNA sequencing methods and their applications in studies of cotranscriptional splicing dynamics published 14 September 2023. Liu is currently an Associate Professor at Guangzhou University. In 2013, Liu earned a Ph.D in Ecology at East China Normal University and in 2008 a BSc, Ecology, at East China Normal University. Research interests include Transcriptional regulation, Abiotic stress and personal interests include listening to music, watching movies, and walking.

As an important member of eukaryotes, plants are very special because they cannot move. When facing external environmental stress, how do they respond to reduce the damage? This is a very fascinating question, so Liu hopes to reveal the plant’s response to environmental stress at the transcriptional level.

Sarah Mermet

Sarah Mermet (she/her) is the First Author of Evolutionary conserved protein motifs drive interactions between the plant nucleoskeleton and nuclear pores published 21 September 2023.

Mermet is going to be a Postdoctoral researcher at Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC), Sweden. In 2022 she earned a Ph.D in Plant molecular biology and genetics at University Clermont Auvergne, France. In 2019, she earned a MSc in Genetics, Physiology and Pathology at University Clermont Auvergne, France; and in 2017, she earned a BSc in Biology at University Jean Monnet, France. Research interests include Plant genetic, transcriptional regulation, and nuclear architecture. Personal interests include badminton, playing trumpet, hiking and skiing.

Chaoqun Shen

Chaoqun Shen (she/her) is the First Author of MADS8 is indispensable for female reproductive development at high ambient temperatures in cereal crops published 21 September 2023. Shen is currently a Research Fellow at University of Adelaide/ ARC- ITTC for Future Crops Development She is also a joint PhD student at both Shanghai Jiao Tong University and University of Adelaide. Shen earned a Ph.D in Plant Reproductive Biology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and University of Adelaide in 2023. From 2012-2016, she earned a BSc in Horticulture at Huazhong Agricultural University. Research interests include plant reproductive development and plant transformation. Personal interests include cooking, traveling, and reading.

Shen was inspired by the late Prof. Dabing Zhang to work in reproductive plant science. She wants to thank him for all the guidance and support he provided for her project.
