Brief bio: China is the first country in the world to produce sweet potato, Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas [L.] Lam.) plays an important role in food security. I was fortunate to join College of Agriculture and Biotechnology at China Agricultural University and the Key Laboratory of Sweet Potato Biology and Biotechnology of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in 2016, to pursue my Ph.D. Under the guidance of Pro. Shaozhen He, the genes regulating leaf development and flavonoid accumulation, and the underlying transcriptional regulatory mechanisms were studied. We identified the B-box (BBX) family transcription factor IbBBX29 that regulates IAA-mediated leaf development and flavonoid biosynthesis in sweet potato and Arabidopsis, providing a candidate gene for flavonoid biofortification in plants.
