Recognizing Plant Direct first authors: Wei Xu

Wei Xu, first author of Genomic analysis reveals rich genetic variation and potential targets of selection during domestication of castor bean from perennial woody tree to annual semi-woody crop

Current Position: Associate Professor of plant molecular biology at Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB), Chinese Academy of Science, China (CAS)

Education: 2019-present, associate Professor in KIB, CAS; 2017-2018, postdoctoral fellowship at KIB; 2013-2016, Ph.D in Botany, co-cultivate postgraduate of Yunnan University and CAS; 2009-2012, M.Sc in Botany, Yangzhou University; 2005-2009, B.Sc in Biology, Hebei Normal University

Non-scientific Interests: reading books, hill-climbing

Brief bio: I received my PhD in botany at Yunnan University in 2016, and did postdoctoral research at Kunming Institute of Botany, CAS during 2017-2018, where my interests in population genetics, evolution and genome-wide associated study of castor bean were kindled. Now I joined Prof. Aizhong Liu’s Lab as a associate professor in KIB. My present research focuses on the regulatory mechanisms of seed/endosperm development and storage materials accumulation, particularly with regard to the epigenetic regulation on them, such as DNA methylation, histone modifications and genomic imprinting.
