Xiu-Li Hou, first author of DEAD-BOX RNA HELICASE 27 Regulates MicroRNA Biogenesis, Zygote Division and Stem Cell Homeostasis

Brief bio: I joined the lab of Prof. Chun-Ming Liu at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2011 as a graduate student. My main focus was on studying the mechanisms of zygote activation and stem cell homeostasis in Arabidopsis. Through genetic analyses, I found that mutations of the gene encoding DEAD-box RNA helicase 27 (RH27) caused zygote-lethal (a strong allele) and defective stem cell homeostasis (a weak allele). Biochemical assays and sequencing analyses revealed that RH27 is a key component in miRNA biogenesis, and is critical for zygote division and stem cell homeostasis. Now, I am starting my postdoctoral research in the lab of Prof. Xiaofeng Cao at the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, to study cold tolerance in rice.

个人研究简介:我于2011年加入中国科学院植物研究所刘春明研究员实验室开始研究生学习,主要从事拟南芥合子激活和干细胞稳态调控机制的研究。通过遗传分析,我发现编码拟南芥DEAD-box RNA解旋酶27(RH27)的基因突变后导致合子致死(强突变体)和干细胞稳态紊乱(弱突变体)。生化实验及小RNA测序分析表明RH27可能作为miRNA生物合成过程中的重要组分调控合子分裂和干细胞稳态。目前,我在中国科学院遗传与发育生物学研究所曹晓风院士课题组进行博士后研究,探索水稻耐低温的分子机制。
