Education: Postdoc (Maize Genetics) and PhD (Plant Pathology & Bioinformatics) in University of Minnesota Twin Cities; M.Sc. (Forensic Genetics) and B.Sc. (Biological Engineering & Computer Science Technology) in Xi’an Jiaotong University in Xi’an, China.

Brief bio:  The regulation of gene expression is central to many biological processes.  Using a combination of classical genetics, comparative genomics and multi-omics approaches, my research group studies the regulatory mechanisms of gene expression during crop (mainly maize and wheat) development and under stress conditions.  Our goal is to identify key cis-acting elements and trans-acting factors for use of precision editing and crop improvement.  In addition, my research interests include mining big data for the construction of gene regulatory networks, training machine learning models for the prediction of temporal/spatial gene expression patterns, as well as building standardized bioinformatics pipelines and data visualization in the pan-genomic era.
