Brief Bio: Fred originates from the islands of the Philippines. He had been involved in the physiological dissection and genetic elucidation of rice tolerance to varying flooding regimes in the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). He is very interested in bridging fundamental science with realized products of social relevance and impact. He believes that the natural microbiome can enhance fitness and performance of crops even under challenging conditions such as pathogen attack, abiotic stresses, and scarce resources. These findings will help solve the problems of food security and sustainability with lesser ecological footprint.
