Brief bio: After a master in Biotechnology, I decided to direct my future as a researcher towards plant physiology, joining a PhD in Agrobioscience at Sant’Anna School in Pisa. I am fascinated by the thin boundary that exists between plant homeostasis and stressful conditions, as a consequence of the complexity of natural environments that challenges plant survival every day. The combination of waterlogging and heavy metal excess gave me the opportunity to uncover part of the molecular responses plants use to cope with such composite situations. Soon enough, I understood the importance of using poplar trees as model species in order to further apply this knowledge into the hot topic of heavy metal contamination by the use of phytoremediation.
