Brief bio:  In my PhD and postdoctoral research projects, I have studied with great interest the mechanisms of epidermis and vascular tissue development in plant roots. I obtained my PhD in Biology from Yonsei University in February, 2010. My thesis work was conducted in Dr. Myeong Min Lee’s laboratory on understanding target genes controlled by the transcriptional regulator WEREWOLF in Arabidopsis root epidermis development.  As a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. John Schiefelbein’s laboratory from 2011 to 2013, I defined and analyzed genes acting during the early stages of cell fate determination in the Arabidopsis root epidermis. Subsequently, I worked in Dr. Ji-Young Lee’s laboratory at Seoul National University for 2 years studying principal mechanisms that underlie cell division and patterning during plant root growth and development. Currently, I am continuing my research in the Schiefelbein laboratory to broadly understand the molecular genomics of the root hair differentiation pathway in angiosperms and especially to use single-cell RNA sequencing for comparative analysis of gene expression in individual root cells.
