Brief bio: I have always been fascinated by symbiotic nitrogen fixation between legume and rhizobia, not only they have the capacity to convert atmospheric dinitrogen (N2) to a reduced form efficiently, but also the complex and specific interactions between them. Following this passion, I pursued a M.S. and PhD in Microbiology studying biological nitrogen fixation and plant-microbe interactions. Under the supervision of Prof. Youguo Li at State Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbiology, I specifically studied the role of rhizobia and host genes in their interactions. I believe that both genes plays an essential role during rhizobia invasion and nodule formation and that a better understanding of their mode of action will allow us to extend the rhizobia into non-legume host plants and improve food production.
