Recognizing Plant Cell authors: Akira Yoshinari

Akira Yoshinari, co-first author of Covalent Self-labeling of Tagged Proteins with Chemical Fluorescent Dyes in BY-2 Cells and Arabidopsis Seedlings

Current Position: Postdoc, Institute of Transformative Biomolecules (WPI-ITbM), Nagoya University

Education: Ph.D., Hokkaido University, Japan; bachelor degree, Tohoku University, Japan

Non-scientific interests: karaoke, coffee, craft beer, illustration, and Saxophone

Brief bio: During my undergraduate degree, I studied molecular mechanism of nitrogen homeostasis under the supervision of Dr. Toshihiko Hayakawa, Tohoku University. I was fascinated by plant nutrition and nutrient transporters then. After graduating, I moved to Hokkaido University and started research on boron transporters and cell biology under the supervision of Dr. Junpei Takano. After finishing my Ph.D. study, I joined the group of Prof. Wolf Frommer in Nagoya University as a postdoctoral fellow. I am working on engineering of genetically-encoded biosensors and study of cell polarity.
