ASPB Welcomes Oxford University Press

*** You can find new articles posted in advance of final issues here. The new website is still under construction and will be formally launched in January 2021. ***

ASPB is pleased to usher in a new era in the publication of our Society journals, Plant Physiology and The Plant Cell, with the transfer of post-acceptance production and publication of both journals to Oxford University Press (OUP).

In early 2020, ASPB leadership made the decision to partner with OUP to produce and disseminate the ASPB journals to ensure the continued success of our journals in the face of the rapidly changing climate of scholarly publishing. OUP is a highly respected, not-for-profit department of the University of Oxford with over 400 years of experience in academic publishing, and we believe the production of our journals is in good hands. You can read more about the partnership and what it means for the Society and the journals here.

ASPB and each journal’s editorial board will continue to manage the peer review process. We will continue for now to use eJP as our manuscript management system, so authors should see few or no alterations to the submission and peer review process in 2021. Authors who are ASPB members will continue to receive a discount on production charges, and ASPB members will continue to receive complimentary access to the full content of both journals. Perhaps the most noticeable change, initially, will be seen in the style and appearance of the journal websites and the final format of manuscripts. We realize this will be a big change for many of our long-time readers and authors who have grown accustomed to the style of each journal over the past 30 years. We hope that the new look of the journals will be welcomed, and we expect this change to be accompanied by access to other features that OUP can provide that will allow authors to more effectively communicate their research, improve the discovery of that research, and enhance the reader experience.

Do note that because of the transition, we will not be posting new content until our launch with OUP on November 17, 2020.

We invite our readers to peruse the new journal websites, and keep an eye out for the new article formats in the January 2021 issue of each journal. And please send us your feedback!
