Brief bio: I am studying photosynthesis in CAS center for Excellence in molecular plant science. Photosynthesis is very important for our world, and C4 photosynthesis is a highly efficient photosynthetic type. Compared with C3 plants, the water use efficiency of C4 plants is higher. The demands for H2O and CO2 during the evolution of C4 photosynthesis attract me. Stomata are little pores on plants surface. Stomata are very important for the shuttle of H2O and CO2 between plants and atmosphere. Therefore, I am very interest in the stomatal change during the evolution of C4 photosynthesis. I found the changed pattern of stomata with the evolution of C4 photosynthesis. In addition, I found the FSTOMAGEN gene underlay the change of stomata during the evolution of C4 photosynthesis. In future, I will continue to focus on the stomatal evolution along the road to C4 photosynthesis.
