Brief bio: My graduate supervisor Dr. Lanping Guo and doctoral supervisor Dr. Luqi Huang were from the same lab, State Key Laboratory Breeding Base of Dao-di Herbs. Our lab mainly focuses on cellular and molecular biology of medicinal plants. My research interests focus is on physiological mechanisms and ecological effects of the secondary metabolites from medicinal plants. I began studying the biosynthesis of shikonin, which was a natural product from Arnebia euchroma, as a graduate student. My research focused on characterizing genes involved in shikonin biosynthesis pathway during my period as a doctoral student. After graduation, I stayed in our laboratory to work as an assistant. This study is still ongoing. I am trying to reveal the mechanism of the ring formation of shikonin.
